Es war der Hit des Sommers 2008: Katy Perrys “I Kissed A Girl“. Kaum jemand, der dazu nicht gut gelaunt durch die Küche getanzt oder unter der Dusche selbst zum Popstar mutiert wäre. In ihrem Song beichtet die 23-Jährige, die mit ihrem Lolita-Stil der Fünfziger Jahre eine perfekte Mischung aus Unschuld und Verführung gibt, ein Mädchen geküsst zu haben – und das, obwohl sie doch eigentlich auf Jungs steht. Verpackt hat sie ihr Geständnis in eine knallig-eingängige Popmelodie, die dem Begriff Ohrwurm eine vollkommen neue Dimension verleiht. Kein Wunder also, dass “I Kissed A Girl” gleich nach seinem Erscheinen auf Platz 1 der US-Charts geschossen ist.

Die Musik steht schon seit Katys frühester Kindheit im Zentrum ihres Lebens. Damals allerdings, als sie im zarten Alter von neun Jahren auf Familienfeiern und öffentlichen Veranstaltungen sang, ging es noch wesentlich züchtiger zu. Als Tochter eines Pastorenehepaares fanden sich Gospel und Kirchenlieder in ihrem Gesangsbuch. Ihr großes “Aha-Erlebnis”, das sie auf den Weg zur Popmusik brachte, hatte sie nach eigenen Worten auf einer Pyjama-Party. Damals war es eine Platte von Queen, die sie aus ihren rosa Pantoffeln haute. Es ist also nicht zuletzt Freddie Mercury zu verdanken, dass uns mit Katy Perry eine neue Popsensation ins Haus steht.
