In der “Jetzt oder Nie” RTL Show trat Benny mit 14 weiteren Kandidaten um den begehrten Platz in der TOP 10 an. Als Song wählte er “Hurt” von Christina Aguilera. Ein schwieriges Stück mit dem er die Anrufer nicht überzeugen konnte. Die Jury wählte ihn mit einiger Kritik dann aber doch noch in die Top 10.

Bei der ersten Mottoshow “Greatest Hits” sang Benny “So Sick” von Ne-Yo. Der Paradisvogel hatte schon deutlich bessere Auftritte. Für Dieter Bohlen war die Vorstellung einfach nur grottenschlecht. Da Benny aber ein Liebling des Publikums ist, kam er eine Runde weiter.

In der zweiten Mottoshow “Geschlechtertausch” startete Benny mit “Like a Virkin” von Superstar Madonna. Die Bühnenpräsenz war gut, der Auftritt insgesamt einfallsreich. Bei der Stimme gelangte Benny an seine Grenzen und wurde von Dieter Bohlen auch gleich wieder nieder gemacht. Die Chancen für Benny waren aber trotzdem gut, da er zu den beliebtesten Kandidaten der Show gehört. Und so riefen wieder genug Zuschauer an. Benny ist weiter!

In der dritten Mottoshow “Party-Hits” startete Benny als zweiter Kandidat mit dem 90er Jahre Pop-Hit “What Is Love” von Haddaway. Mit dem Song erreichte der in Köln lebende Haddaway 1993 in den deutschen und den U.K. Charts Platz 2 und in den US Billboard-Charts immerhin Platz 11. Die Performance von Benny war gut, diesmal verzichte er weitesgehend auf eine allzu “schwuchtelige” Darstellung. Dies hatte Dieter Bohlen in der letzten Mottoshow heftig kritisiert. Diesmal war Dieter von Bennys Stimme überzeugt. Die Jury hielt diesen Auftritt für den seinen bisher Besten. Das können wir bestätigen. Nach der Bewertung zeigte RTL noch halbnackt – Fotos von Benny und seinem Freund aus der Bildzeitung. Trotzdem wählten ihn die Anrufer in die vierte Mottoshow.

Sein Auftritt bei der 4. Mottoshow “Sexy Hits” stand allerdings für ein paar Tage noch in den Sternen. Seine Chance bei der Show teilzunehmen gab RTL gerade mal mit 20% an, so schwer sei er erkrankt. Er startete schließlich doch mit Don`t Cha von den sexy Pussycat Dolls als erster Kandidat. Von seiner schweren Erkältung war nicht mehr viel zu sehen. Allerdings wurde er beim Refrain von den Profi-Backgroundsängerinen auch massiv gestützt. Alles in Allem war es dennoch ein gelungener Auftritt, Benny räkelte sich lasziv im Raubkatzenkäfig, das Publikum war begeistert. Auch Dieter Bohlen, Nina und Volker hatte nur Lob für Benny übrig. Am Ende entschieden die Zuschauer und Benny hat den Einzug in die 5. Mottoshow geschafft.

In der 5. DSDS Mottoshow “Hits” & “I Love You” startete Benny als zweiter Kandidat mit “Und Wenn Ein Lied” von den Söhnen Mannheims aus dem zweiten SM Album “Noiz“. Den Song widmete Benny seinem besten Freund Marcel. Der Auftritt war nicht schlecht, haute aber auch niemanden aus den Sitzen. Manche Töne traf Benny nicht. Das Publikum freute sich trotzdem und applaudiertw kräftig. Volker freutw sich über Bennys unbuntes Outfit (mit Jacket), fand die Aussprache von Benny (bzw. sein Dialekt) aber bei einem deutschen Song etwas merkwürdig. Nina und Dieter schliossen sich der Meinung an. Dieter meinte aber auch, dass der Song vor allem Gefühl transportieren muß; und das habe Benny geschafft! Als zweiten Song sang Benny “Closer” von Ne-Yo. Vorher mussten wir uns allerdings noch Bennys Oma beim Jodeln zuhören. Wie niedlich, zumindest wenn man jodeln mag. Der zweite Auftritt von Benny war etwas dynamischer als der Erste, allerdings hat der Song auch jede Menge Pfeffer. Stimmlich konnte Benny nicht restlos überzeugen, der Unterschied zu den Top-Kandidaten war weiterhin groß. Aber man merkte, dass sich Benny redlich bemühte eine gute Leistung zu bringen um seine Fans nochmal zu überzeugen ihn eine Runde weiter zu wählen. Volker bemerkte natürlich, dass Ne-Yo eine Klasse besser singt. Nina fand den Auftritt besser als beim ersten Song. Dieter fand die erste Nummer besser und attestierte Nina, “dass sie wie immer keine Ahnung habe”. Die Anrufer waren der Meinung, dass Dieter keine Ahnung hat und wählten Benny knapp eine Runde weiter.

In die 6. DSDS Mottoshow “Sonne und Regen” startete Benny Kieckhäben als erster Kandidat mit dem gute Laune Song ”Walking On Sunshine” von Katrina & The Waves. Die Performance war sehr gut, Benny hat sich viel bewegt und das Publikum eingebunden. Dieter kritisierte den Gesang und den Style von Benny und prophezeite das Ende in dieser Mottoshow. Nina und Volker fanden jedoch die Leistung und Bennys Show ganz OK. In der zweiten Runde sang Benny den Hit “When The Rain Begins To Fall” von Pia Zadora & Jermaine Jackson (einem Bruder von Michael Jackson). Die Nummer war deutlich zu schwer für Benny. Die Stimme von Pia Zadorra ist deutlich höher als Benny es schafft. Auch konnte er dem Song keinen anderen Stil verpassen um dieses Manko auszugleichen. Vielleicht hätte Benny hier einfach einen anderen Song wählen sollen. Allerdings gab sich Benny redlich Mühe mit der Nummer klar zu kommen und konnte auch den ein oder anderen Akzent setzen. Das Publikum war mit der Nummer zufrieden. Volker fand den Auftritt gut und bekam von Benny dafür ein Küßchen. Nina bemerkte ein paar schräge Töne, war aber trotzdem zufrieden. Dieter konnte nur eine positive Bemerkung machen: Es war besser als der erste Song. Aber die Töne waren daneben. Das sagte Dieter aber alles so lieb, dass auch er ein Kuss von Benny bekam. Ob das für die 7. Mottoshow reicht? Nein, es reichte nicht. Diesmal war für Paradisvogel Benny Schluß. Er kam nicht weiter.

Benny Kieckhäben wurde geboren am 11. Februar 1990. Benny sagt über sich selbst: „Ich bin eine Rampensau,“. Egal, ob beim Shoppen mit der besten Freundin, bei kleinen Auftritten in Worms unter dem Künstlernamen „B-any“ oder bei seiner Arbeit im Friseursalon: Benny fällt auf!

Mit seinem Gesang vor einem großen Publikum für Begeisterung sorgen will er schon lange – spätestens, seitdem seine Oma dem Kleinkind Benny das Singen beigebracht hat. Dem 18-Jährigen ist das Singen inzwischen so wichtig, dass er für die Teilnahme bei DSDS sogar seine Ausbildung zum Friseur erst einmal auf Eis legte!

Privat steht Benny auf R’n’B und die Musik von Beyoncé – sie ist auch in Show- und Stylingfragen sein großes Vorbild. Heute ist Benny zufrieden mit sich und seinem Aussehen, doch bis dahin war es ein langer Weg: Erst als er sich vor 18 Monaten vornahm, an sich zu arbeiten, sein Styling komplett änderte, viel Gewicht verlor und sein Coming-Out hatte, gewann er an Selbstbewusstsein und ist seitdem glücklich.

Unter seinem Künstlernamen „B-any“ hat er bereits zwei Singles aufgenommen. Gemeinsam mit seinen Eltern Lothar und Christina sowie dem gleichnamigen Familienhund („Benny“) lebt Benny in Worms.
